The Texas Stars went up against the Rockford Ice Hogs last night at Cedar Park Center. The Stars were back home from a long 2 week road trip. It's Pink in the Rink this weekend and the team sported special pink jerseys that will be auctioned off to raise money for Breast Cancer Resource Centers of Texas. The Stars lost this first game of a double weekend series agains the Ice Hogs, falling 4-3 in overtime. The team's track record in overtime has not been good this season and this brings a league worst record of 12 losses in overtime.
The first shot is Patrik Nemeth crashing into the boards. Nemeth scored the goal that won the Stars' the Calder Cup last season. His performance earned him a spot in the Dallas Stars lineup where he sustained a critical injury early in the season. He is finally back on the ice with the Texas Stars and I cringed when I saw him take this spill. Fortunately, it didn't seem to phase him. The second shot is the celebration of a goal by Scott Glennie. The Stars never did have a lead in the game but managed to answer each Ice Hogs' goal to force the overtime period. The third shot is a nice stop by goalie Jack Campbell amidst heavy traffic in his crease.
Due to weather conditions that worsened during the game, I didn't stay for the 3rd period and overtime. My drive home takes me over roads that ice easily so I decided to take extra precaution. The winter weather definitely had an effect on attendance at this Friday night game. It looks like conditions will be better for tonight's rematch against the Ice Hogs.
