Tribute Night at Hanovers

Hanovers in Pflugerville, TX had a hard hitting heavy metal tribute double feature this past Saturday with Mob Rules (Dio) and Judas and the Beast (Judas Priest / Iron Maiden) sharing the bill. I'd seen Mob Rules before and was impressed enough that I looked forward to catching them again. Judas and the Beast was new to me and I'd heard high praise from musician friends who had seen them on stage. Of course, I was there down in front with a camera in hand.

Mob Rules opened the show and had a great set. Ronnie James Dio had a monster voice and justice was absolutely done by their vocalist in recreating his distinctive sound. The passion of local musicians in Austin in pulling off tributes like this is a quite a marvel to me. However, the big surprise to me for the evening was the female vocalist for Judas and the Beast. Rob Halford and Bruce Dickinson of Judas Priest and Iron Maiden respectively are two of the biggest voices in heavy metal. Could the petite front lady of this band pull that off? Uh, yeah she did. She totally did. This band was intense...and loud. I'll admit I had to pop in my ear plugs for their scorching set.

Here are a few shots from the show. You can find more on my gallery site. Mob Rules is here and Judas and the Beast is here
