I stopped by the Austin Rodeo Fairgrounds with my friend Andy again this year. I can't resist carnival rides at night. It is great fun to catch the color, lights, and motion in the evening hours. The sun is starting to set in this shot and the brief blue hour is beginning. I chose to underexpose this shot with a silhouette of the circular ride in mind. This particular ride isn't all that interesting from a light standpoint but I really liked the idea of the cars in silhouette against the sky. I shot this with my Fuji X100, which made getting the composition I wanted a bit tough. I'd have preferred to have a wider angle to get closer for this one. I took this shot while killing some time before meeting my friend Tony in Austin's warehouse district one evening recently. The shot is composed of 2 exposures. I noticed the guy sitting under the solar canopy and worked quickly to get the shot before he moved on. Shots like this are some of the most challenging for my color blind eyes. I'm aware that there is a mix of warm and cool light from the various sources you encounter in urban areas like this. I particularly like balancing warm street lights against the dark blue of early nighttime skies. It's a bit tough since my color perception isn't the greatest! I did some modeled t-shirt shots for Feeping Creatures last weekend. We thought it would be fun if Katie mimicked the t-shirt monsters on a few shots.
