While I live in the shadow of a decent sized city, I’m fortunate enough to have lots of small Texas towns in easy traveling distance from my home. When I feel the need to take a break from congested roadways and crowds of people, I can just hop on my motorcycle and find solitude on the open backroads that connect forgotten old towns. It is a bittersweet experience to enjoy a quiet respite, while being a bit saddened by the decay that I often find in these places.
